Finding Friends & Family - Animal Rescue -
Food & Shelter - Jobs & Unemployment

Safety First

Protecting the lives of your loved ones is job one. Following a disaster follow local recommendations for safety including shutting off utilities, evacuations, fuel refills, and other help. If you can't reach family members by cell phone, you may be still able to reach them by text messaging. There are also several registries where you can list yourself as "safe and well".

The Basics - Food, Shelter, Medical Care

TIP: If possible, bring along all prescription medicine bottles with you when you evacuate. Many states allow out-of-state pharmacies to refill medications, with some exceptions, during a disaster. Contact the Red Cross or your local Emergency Management Agency to find out more.

Evacuating Pets

After Hurricane Katrina states were required to re-examine their readiness to evacuate and shelter pets during an emergency. Most pet shelters require a crate and a leash. You should also have food, water, and medicines for your pet in your emergency kit. It is also helpful if you bring vaccination records, water bowls, and plastic bags.
